OUR HISTORY

Carmel Public School, is an educational enterprise of the Carmel Monastery, Vazhakulam. Ever since the founding of the monastery in 1859, it took special care and interest in the education of the people of the locality. This was part of the mandate of the founding Fathers of the CMI Congregation. When the golden jubilee of the monastery was celebrated in 1909, the Infant Jesus Elementary School was started. Realizing the dearth of students for the English medium, the Management decided to start an elementary English medium the Sabas English School was opened in June 1983. The Carmel English U.P. School started in 1995 for the students who completed the primary classes in Sabas. But seeing the great demand for the C.B.S.E. systems all over India and abroad, the management introduced the C.B.S.E. system in 1997 and the school was renamed Carmel CMI Public School. The school was formally affiliated to the C.B.S.E. in 1998 upto Class X and was upgraded to Plus Two level in 2001.

The vision that upholds Carmel belongs to St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara who was a saint and social reformer. St.Kuriakose Elias Chavara was one of the first missionaries to dedicate his life to the upliftment of the society from illiteracy, superstition and inhuman practices. That profound vision of the saintly priest led to the establishment of numerous schools in Kerala and later in many parts of India as well as abroad. Each CMI school is a beacon that transforms the society of which it is an integral part. Carmel CMI Public School has played that role of beacon in Vazhakulam with its subline aims and objectives.
