Carmel Public School, is an educational enterprise of the Carmel Monastery, Vazhakulam. Ever since the founding of the monastery in 1859, it took special care and interest in the education of the people of the locality. This was part of the mandate of the founding Fathers of the CMI Congregation. When the golden jubilee of the monastery was celebrated in 1909, the Infant Jesus Elementary School was started. Realizing the dearth of students for the English medium, the Management decided to start an elementary English medium the Sabas English School was opened in June 1983. The Carmel English U.P. School started in 1995 for the students who completed the primary classes in Sabas. But seeing the great demand for the C.B.S.E. systems all over India and abroad,the management introduced the C.B.S.E. system in 1997 and the school was renamed Carmel CMI Public School. The school was formally affiliated to the C.B.S.E. in 1998 upto Class X and was upgraded to Plus Two level in 2001.
